Birthstone Bracelet
Our girl appeared amid the heat of summer’s hottest, doggest days. When she arrived, we felt complete. We knew we gave our hearts away. She loved to wear both pink and white and dreamt of magic unicorns. And when our girl attained her height, we thought that life would run its course. This baby born in late July would one day don a ruby ring and faintly line her bright blue eyes and learn to sweetly, softly sing. We held when she’d achieved her years she’d dance in dresses laced with gold. But she enflamed our darkest fears, believing lies she had been sold. She paid no mind to truth or health, detesting curves that God had giv’n. She shunned our love and cut herself, so plunging us to hell from heav’n. One day, I dream her whitened wrists will wear the ruby bracelet well, return to us and grant our wish, accepting good gifts God has willed.
