When I click the actual search I just get 56 pages each with 18 different campaigns. Also if I search "top surgery" with brackets, it says there are only 13k results.
I'll be blunt. We do ourselves a disservice and sound like helicopter parents if we refer to our college age children as children in this context. Legally, they are adults. Neurologically, they are still adolescents until they are in their mid-twenties. No one should be medicalized before 22-25. However, I imagine how I would have perceived this letter before I was aware of the ROGD epidemic--a mother infantilizing her daughter; a mother who focuses on HER life being turned upside down (and not the daughter's). Too emotional. Too verbose. I agree with everything you've written and I feel your pain. However, as a strategy to actually get a reply and start communicating with a bioethics researcher? Unfortunately, I wouldn't expect a response.
Agree, it's an emotive speech, plays well to an audience, but certainly not a methodical request to a medical professional. Which - given the articulacy, so presumably the insight to distinguish between those two quite different needs - raises all sorts of questions as regards honesty. There are clearly some 'fake news' actors in the mix, alongside genuine parents, so anything people can do to anchor their personal accounts in facts and details is helpful - this *could* have been written by either.
I can assure you my daughter, who has since desisted, has no breasts. Perhaps the other 20 articles of so on my substack will have more meaning for you. I do not write 'fake news.' I was requesting nothing of this professional as I clearly stated up front - nor was I writing this for PITT. You are correct I was emotionally writing what happened to my family which was my intention at the time -for a reason. I also made it clear it was happening to thousands of families. PITT asked for something when they launched and as I was up against deadlines this is what I gave them. It was a letter to a professional whose contact I was given by another professional - a friend. I only refrained from a few details to keep privacy of those professionals. At the time it was posted a few other places. I am only coming back as it will be printed elsewhere soon and noticed comments. As for writing experience, while not my profession, my profession requires much of it. It is not new to me.
I didn't even think this could have been a provocation. Possibly. But more than that this screams lack of writing experience to me, unfortunately. Ideally, if one is reaching out to an academic, or a journalist, or similar, the piece needs to be not only copy-edited, but also critiqued to death and content-edited before it is submitted.
What a blast from the past, so to speak. 3 years ago. This was probably one of my first comments on PITT. I'm so happy to hear your daughter desisted. My child has since desisted as well. I hope most of PITT Parents will be able to report the same in a couple of years or sooner. Lots of love to you.
They are being told the lie at an early age that their identity can shift, be discovered, had been repressed, just like that and then that the new one requires medical intervention, that otherwise they will never feel better and never recover.
No surprise that you received no reply. My daughter's pediatrician flatly refused to accept a copy of Irreversible Damage as a gift. FLAT. OUT. REFUSED.
That book was NOT rubbish. Our pediatrician affirmed with absolutely no examination. She just affirmed. Would not listen to me. Trans people deserve a say AFTER they’ve read the book. Instead they screamed to ban it without reading it. It perfectly described my daughter who went from boy crazy to bi to gay to trans in less than 12 weeks. Why not read both sides? I do. I read articles on Medium from both sides every day. I don’t shit anyone down. Can’t say the same for the other side.
Excellent letter! One thing- near the end where you say “Imagine if…” and how your child claiming the opposite gender identity would turn your world upside-down, I think it should say that wanting hormones and surgery would turn your world upside-down. Kids want weird things all the time. If they mention of gender transitioning itself is mind blowing, you sound “trans-phobic,” but you aren’t. Being clear and avoiding being misconstrued is important. The advocates will latch onto anything to debunk you.
Thanks for the reply. I wrote a longer comment above about how this was actually not written for PITT was given to them as something they could post not long after they launched. It was an actual letter meant for the receiver whose contact was provided by a a friend - so a few details were left out.

Where are you seeing 40k women on gofundme? I only see 1k
Go to GoFundMe and search in the top left "top surgery", over 41K comes up.

I got the same today. Did a screen shot, but it won't let me post it here.
But whether it is 500, or 13K, or 40K.....young women are asking for money to amputate healthy breasts.

So, so glad to hear this news!
And I have many emotional letters that no one will ever see ;)
We all do. ;-)

Sounds like we raised the same daughter.

Doctors are too busy to think about what they do
My thoughts exactly. It IS beautifully written.
