Mr. Fox...that you believe affirming trans youth started in 2009 (when that is only when extremist opposition to it began) is revealing of how uninformed you are about the issue. Trans kids have existed for decades (actually, forever), but let's just go back to the 1940's.
Many kids (and adults) took their own lives out of despair simply because they could NOT be visible, or share what they were experiencing with anyone due to both cultural ignorance, and lack of access to others who were like them. I've been working directly with these kids and their families since 2006, and knew they existed long before that, because I've also facilitated peer support for trans adults, most of whom talked about their despair and suicidality in their youth. As with most suicides, we don't know WHY a lot of people kill themselves because they don't leave notes. Now, we have more data because more people know a kid is trans, or nonbinary or otherwise gender expansive BEFORE they engage in self-harm, so we know more about WHY they've taken their own lives.
You want to believe the false narrative that this is something 'new', and only began in 2009 because people driven by ideology or political expediency perpetuate the disinformation campaign in order to demonize and terrorize these kids and their families.
I know I'm wasting my breath here, but I'm genuinely trying to engage in dialogue about this, but you are so dismissive of anything other than the anti-trans disinformation you're consuming that you can't even engage objectively.
