"Icy Storm" by singer-songwriter Elizabeth Hummel was inspired by stories from parents shared in Parents with Inconvenient Truths About Trans (PITT). This new beautiful video of the song Elizabeth wrote is about our pain--but also our hope.
May joy return.

Lyrics You were open A rippling stream I didn’t know how Precious that was When I held you The universe stopped I could not believe I’d ever lose you Can’t see what’s in front of me I’m lost in this icy storm If you, if you ever come back to me My love will keep you warm You were dreaming Of glittering unicorns I didn’t know how To waken you You kept tumbling The rainbow promised you its end But there’s no pot of gold And there is no end Can’t see what’s in front of me I’m lost in this icy storm If you, if you ever come back to me My love will keep you warm You were open A rippling stream Now I know how Precious that was In the darkness I reach out for you We both have our scars Beautiful scars Beautiful light in front of me Cuts through the icy storm When you, beloved one, come back to me My love will keep you warm
Thank you so much for this! Monday is my daughter's 19th birthday. I will send a card through a friend but I will not see her or hug her or hear back from her. It's been over 2 months now since she went no contact. Looking at pictures from April 2018 as she turned 14 and the tears flow. She came out as trans in May 2020 just after her 16th birthday. Will I ever see her or hear her voice again? My heart is broken.
This song made me cry. The raw truth. Wow. It is still hard to believe that this is going on in our country, around the world, and in my own family. I want my nephew to come home I want my sister’s heart not to be broken anymore. This is indeed a very dangerous and icy storm that we are all trying to navigate, survive and recover from day by day. Thank you for sharing.
