It’s Pride Month! Here’s how I’m celebrating

June is known as Pride Month. I thus would like to take this month to recognize the following for allowing us to have a more nuanced appreciation and understanding of gender and sexuality, while being grounded in reality, truth, biology, and kindness too. I might not agree with everything everyone says, does, or believes (and in fact some might not even like being in the same list as others), but I feel they have helped contribute to changing the international conversation in various ways, and for that I am grateful - and proud.

• Researcher Dr. Lisa Littman—she poked her toe in the water and hasn’t stopped doing good science, despite it all. She’s the first thing I came across when I googled “suddenly trans” (for that’s what it is when your kid has zippo childhood gender dysphoria)

• Finland for being the first country in the world to look at the evidence for care of gender-questioning youth and realize how lacking it is

• Abigail Shrier, one of the bravest and most tenacious writers out there, and for Irreversible Damage - thank you for putting it all out there for our girls

• Scott Newgent, for being one of the first trans people to write publicly about why gender dysphoric children shouldn’t medicalize

• Other heterodox trans people like Corinna Cohn, Aaron Kimberly and Aaron Terrell of Gender Dysphoria Alliance, Debbie Hayton, Mars, and more

• The UK. Where to begin when talking about TERF Island!?! First and foremost, Keira Bell, JK Rowling, and Transgender Trend (and congrats on your big award!), for being pioneers. Also Helen Joyce, Kathleen Stock, the Tavistock whistleblowers, NICE studies, and the interim Cass Review

• Sweden, one of the most trans-progressive countries in the world, advising caution based on evidence

• Nuanced independent journalists like Carolina Jemsby, Lisa Selin Davis, Jesse Singal, Katie Herzog, Bari Weiss, Wesley Yang, Barbara Kay, Benjamin Boyce, and Megan Daum

• Brave legacy journalists like Tom Blackwell and Bernard Lane and outlets like the National Post, the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, 60 Minutes, Quillette, and Brandon Showalter, jouralist who has been really involved in covering the harms of this agenda.

• Lawyers like Lisa Bildy, Vernadette Browles, and Luke Berg

• Gender: A Wider Lens podcast, which for more than a year has explored all facets of gender as well as its many intersections with sexuality.

• Detransitioners speaking up like Sinead Watson, Grace, Helena, Tullip, Some Nuance Please, and in ever increasing numbers, despite the vitriol too often hurled at them

• Desisters, also a forgotten and disparaged group

• Gay adults worried about the future of gay kids, such as Arty Morty and Allison Bailey

• France’s National Academy of Medicine, which has recognized the role of social influence

• The Dysphoric documentary by Indian filmmaker Vaishnavi Sundar

• Jennifer Lahl and her documentary Trans Mission: What's the Rush to Reassign Gender? 

• The Detrans subreddit and the survey it conducted

• 4th Wave Now, which has worried about kids medically transitioning since 2015

• Jordan Peterson, who saw all this coming in 2016 - whatever you think of him, I wish we’d all been as prescient

• Canadian Gender Report, which saw the ideology in schools starting in 2019

• Genspect, for giving a public voice to parent concerns since June 2021

• PITT, for giving a much-needed voice to and outlet for parents

• Parents of ROGD Kids, Our Duty, GDSN, and other support networks

• Researchers like James Cantor, Ken Zucker, and Debra Soh

• Media personalities Bill Maher and Matt Walsh

• Thoughtful therapists who understand exploratory therapy - Stella O’Malley, Sasha Ayed, Tania Marshall, and many more

• The researchers at the Society for Evidence Based Gender Medicine

• Teachers who resist indoctrinating their students

• Family doctors who safeguard kids

• Evolutionary biologists like Richard Dawkins and Colin Wright

• Whistleblowing clinicians like Dr. Laura Edwards-Leeper and transwoman Erica Anderson

• Feminists like Meghan Murphy, Kara Dansky, Mia Ashton, and Amy Hamm

• Parents of detransitioners and desisters who still fight the good fight with us, even though their own immediate fight may be over

• Billboard Chris and others having one conversation at a time

Again, this is to say that not everyone on this list is perfect or has gotten it all right, but that they have positively contributed to moving this issue forward - that’s all.
