The term "autogynophilia" was coined about 30 years ago for males gender-dysphorics who see themselves as "hot young women" and who are sexually aroused by this narcissistic fantasy. Other gender-dysphorics are more interested in males and are sort of hyper-homosexuals. The two types are distinct. But they are both called "gender dysphoric" or "trans woman".
This issue of "one word for really many things" is found in many places. Take schizophrenia. There are some who are "florid" who hear voices. There are others who are simply deeply confused about a lot of stuff and who are "emotionally dead". 2 different types, one term.
Yes. I wonder at the percentage of men who call themselves trans who are actually just AGPs. They fetishize themselves as women. It is a sexual thing. Not an identity thing. (The fetish is that they themselves are the woman so in a sense it is, but different from "trans")
I also wonder at what creates this fetish. Porn at a young age? Abuse of some kind?
There is a hideous person on YouTube who is cluing in the clueless (like me) about the wonders of the AGP person. He goes on and on about how great it is. He is simply ugly, with dirty hair, oily face, and a terrible voice. No one except himself could find himself attractive. It's a psychotic delusion of narcissism.
And there are other kinds of gender dysphoria too, from trauma, being on the spectrum, anxiety, anorexia....people who hate themselves and then project that onto their body. Az Hakeem and Marcus and Susan Evans talk about it (the latter on quillette).
Is this delusional fantasy a Peter Pan syndrome or more of a self harm cult? Whatever it is, for parents it is difficult.
Yes.
For some it is one, for other another.
