It has taken us four years to get to this point. And it’s hard to watch the good Governor Dewine being played at the last minute by activist gender clinic directors (Liebowitz, Nationwide, WPATH Board Member no less) who treat him as a misinformed, clueless fool. Dewine has good doctors advising him. And gender clinic directors have EPICLY FAILED TO PROVIDE THE PROOF that these interventions on minors are evidence-based or necessary to save lives. The backlash of panicked gender phone calls to the Governor has begun. We are beside you, good Governor. Don’t let this last bill ruin your legacy. Hold your breath and sign it. All will be well.
Many doctors and families have testified for the bill, as well as many who have been harmed by “gender affirming” care. The activists may seem to outnumber us, with all their yelling and screaming, but the majority of Ohio families do not believe that children should endure attempted sex changes, nor do they believe that boys should take sports positions or scholarships reserved for girls. Most Ohioans have no idea what’s going on in their back yard. Even Riley Gaines came out to support this bill!
I, like many parents, have been on the inside of trying to help legislators understand the transgender movement for years. I am a parent of a child who has been harmed by the transgender ideology. We are concerned about the pressure being put on our Governor to not sign this bill. His endorsement is the final step needed to protect children in Ohio from the harms of these unnecessary, life altering drugs. Now, Governor Dewine is rehashing everyone’s testimony in one-on-one sessions, including that of the parents who are transitioning their own kids. Wasn’t this was the hearings were for? The House and Senate has worked on this all year and passed the bill. They have done their homework.
Telling a teenager that they can’t handle natural puberty is not teaching resilience or body acceptance. Telling him he is having the wrong puberty because he’s a sensitive caring male who likes pink is child abuse. Puberty is often the cure for those suffering from gender dysphoria, as we know from desistance studies. No one can change sex and no child can be born in the wrong body. These drugs turn children in lifelong patients and can result in sterility. These interventions are not studied and there is no long-term evidence that the benefits outweigh the risks. THEY ARE NOT LIFE SAVING. THEY ARE NOT MEDICALLY NECESSARY. Activists can yell this from the rooftops, and they are. It does not make it true.
