U.K. Top Court Says Trans Women Are Not Legally Women Under Equality Act

Britain’s Supreme Court ruled that the word “woman” refers to biological sex under the country’s anti-discrimination law, in a blow to trans rights activists and a victory for women everywhere. The landmark judgment, which said that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex, could have far-reaching consequences on the operation of single-sex services like domestic violence shelters, as well as on equal pay claims.
