Oh, that poor sad man who found out that all the money he'd thrown away on plastic surgery hadn't changed his sex in the slightest and that his doctors knew his sex anyway because they had to treat him.

*facepalm*

Apreciate the quote from 'Systems That Profit from Suffering' opening this roundup. The idea that numbing is sold as freedom while extracting pieces of us really captures how medical and institutional systems monetize distress under the guise of affirmation. The NYT story about the transgender patient highlights exactly that absurdity, when medical protocols must deny biological reality to acommodate ideology, patient safety gets compromised and staff are left navigating impossible contradictions.
