So, wow....only one month into 2024, and things are really looking up. I have a lot of disdain for the NYT, so I was incredibly shocked that they ran such a comprehensive and fairly objective article. They are notorious for only running stories when they think their progressive reader base is ready for it (In the meanwhile, those following independent journalists are already aware of what is going on.) So, I would be willing to bet that someone in the highest of the 'elite' class has a child that wants to transition, and they desperately want to slow down this train.
I agree. Only when ideologies hit the “closet resistors” do they suddenly realize how important it is to do something and get the word out. I’m thankful someone, anyone is willing to step out against the flow. It just ticks me off that things may not have gotten the traction it did had they stepped up earlier. Honestly, those of us dealing with this psychobabble will take every opportunity we can get to spread the realities of this trnz nightmare.
After reading the New York Times piece, and many, many of the readers' comments, I can honestly say I think the tide has started to turn. The comments are running at least 10-to-1 in support of extreme caution and exploratory therapy for minors first, rather than immediate affirmation; and very few readers think gender surgeries for under-18's should ever be allowed.
One person pointed out that this piece likely would never have run, even ONE year ago.
I was dismayed, though, by some comments from people whose knowledge on trans treatment is hopelessly outdated. Some commenters believe things are still being done the old way, with no hormones or surgeries ever given without lots of therapy first, and psychiatric evaluations by multiple professionals over a few years' time.
One person wrote to the effect of, "Hormones and surgeries aren't just given out on demand."
Not being a fan of the New York Times, I read the article written by Pamela Paul on trans youth. I agree, it was very balanced and very worth reading. I am hoping this thought process of allowing the discussion to revert to more therapy and less push to support transitioning becomes reality. There is so much more research being done and more coming out about the harmful, long lasting effects of these processes and procedures, especially on our youth. There has to be what I would call a nefarious purpose behind this whole ideology and its promotion, and yes I believe political. Think of what a huge distraction it has been in our country while this nation literally falls apart, the division it has caused, and young and older who fall under the spell. It has become a national travesty.

This would be laughable if it wasn't so serious.
Sadly a few of those comments were made by the people doing the actual harm: therapists or people in medicine.
Methinks the lady doth protest too much.
