I am a 13-year-old desister and I'm trying to obtain more evidence of the harm caused by the standard "affirm, accept, and celebrate" approach to gender ideology to submit to medical organizations who support gender affirming care for minors. Additionally, I want to show that these teens are not in the right mindset to make life altering decisions as they are immature, impulsive, and often neurodivergent.
Some of you may know that I posted a survey on PITT a few weeks ago for parents of transgender youths. I think I’ve finally received enough responses to share the results on PITT. Below is a summary. Please keep in mind, I am not a statistician or research PhD. I just hope this will help the cause. I’ve captured some responses in the charts below.
The survey drew 157 respondents. The largest percentage (48%) stated that their child started identifying as trans between the ages of 14-17. Real gender dysphoria is supposed to start in early childhood, which tends to support the theory of ROGD.
Question: At what age did you child start identifying as transgender?
Almost 57% of participants replied that they suspected their child had undiagnosed mental health issues. These issues could be the cause of gender dysphoria. “Do no harm” should require addressing mental health issues before administering life-altering treatments.
Question: Did your child have previously diagnosed mental health conditions prior to identifying as transgender?
97% of participants answered that their child did not show signs of gender dysphoria in early childhood.
Question: Did your child show signs of gender dysphoria in early childhood?
According to some, trans people were always trans, even before they knew it. But that wasn’t supported by my survey. The majority of respondents replied that their child felt comfortable presenting in the stereotypical clothes of their biological sex before "identifying" as trans.
Question: Did your child feel comfortable presenting in stereotypical clothes of their biological gender before identifying as transgender?
Also, the majority of these children had prolonged exposure to social media before identifying as trans. Social contagion has been around forever but, since the advent of social media, the mental health of teens has dramatically worsened. Many were looking for a "loving" community and found it in the trans online community.
Question: Did your child have prolonged exposure to social media before identifying as transgender?
More of these children and young adults had transgender friends before coming out. According to some studies, only 1% to 3% of the population is trans, which also points to social contagion.
Question: Did your child have transgender friends prior to identifying as transgender
Half of the participants' children have experienced trauma prior to identifying as trans. Could this trauma have made them want to avoid anything related to that traumatic experience, including their gender/sexual identity?
Question: Has your child experienced trauma?
The majority of these children did NOT experience suicidal thoughts BEFORE identifying as transgender.
Question: Did you child experience suicidal thoughts before identifying as transgender?
While the majority DID have suicidal thoughts WHILE identifying as trans.
Question: Did your child experience suicidal thoughts while identifying as transgender?
15% of the participants have been called derogatory terms by professionals.
Question: Have you ever been called transphobic, bigoted, TERF, or other derogatory terms by a professional?
The majority of participants said their child was visibly happier before identifying as trans.
Question: Was your child visibly happier before identifying as transgender? Number of responses?
I have sent these results to my local hospital so that they can re-access their gender affirming policy, which has personally affected me. I also sent it to the Trevor Project. To date, I haven’t received a response from either organization
I will gladly send the results to more organizations. If you have specific requests, please let me know in the comments.
Finally, I'd like to thank all of the participants of my survey because I could never do this without you ❤️.
Thank for doing this research. Keep it up!
You're not a statistician and do not have a PhD YET!! Given the logical thinking you have demonstrated with developing and carrying out this survey at age 13, I wouldn't be surprised if you do have one 10 years from now! Well done and thank you!!!
