What you describe is 1/2 the problem. Such people gaslight our kids at high schools and colleges out of a misguided "kindness and understanding". Lovely people I've known for a long time really don't understand. Then, there are the unlovely ones of course. People do understand if/when their own child Trans-outs.

The other half, of course, is Medicine and pharma. Loads of physicians need to lose their ability to practice "Medicine".
