In the 1950s, schools in the Commonwealth of Virginia took a “principled stance” and shut down rather than racially integrate. Now referred to as “massive resistance”, this policy was adopted in 1956 by Virginia’s state government to block the desegregation of public schools mandated by the U.S. Supreme Court in its 1954 Brown v. Board of Education ruling. Virginia lawmakers, school boards and average citizen thought they were doing the right thing. History proved them wrong – horribly wrong. Virginia disgraced itself. It is a shame Virginia will live with forever.
Last week, several Virginia school systems took another principled stance. Two school districts rejected federal demands to change policies which allow trans-identified students to use facilities matching their gender identity. This defied a U.S. Department of Education ultimatum to comply or respond by August 15. The public school system of the City of Alexandria, just across the river from D.C., released this statement: “ACPS’ current policies regarding the rights of all students to use restrooms and locker rooms in accordance with their gender identity will remain in place.” The other school system is Fairfax County.
What this policy tells boys who struggle with their body is that, at least in these school systems, “You are a victim”. And your needs and desires will be prioritized over all the girls at the school. And you can change your sex. You just need medication for life that, if used “properly”, will result in chemical castration.
What this policy tells girls is that there’s a different kind of girl (aka a boy) whose wants and needs take precedence over yours. If this kind of “girl” wants to use your locker room, your bathroom or play in a sport set aside for you, he can. Nothing is set aside for girls that a boy cannot access by identifying as a girl. Because sex is an identity, a costume, a feeling. And for girls who elect to identify as a boy, well you’ll have access to all boy things – you can share their locker room, try to play their sports and use their bathrooms. Good luck with that.
This is a men’s right movement. It will eviscerate women’s sports. It already has in many school districts, especially in track and field.
Once again Virginia is covering itself in shame. Once again Virginia is flaunting its bias for all to see. In the 1950’s it was racism. In 2025 it’s misogyny. Once again, they are on the wrong side of history.
History is going to prove how wrong they are and it isn't going to take long...
Let’s not forget the story of the boy in the skirt who raped a girl in a school bathroom in VIRGINIA and went on to sexually assault another.
