I'm just going to post this link here, to the important criticism of medicalized treatment of GD by leading trans-psychologists: https://wapo.st/3EelVvm

The problem is that courts and schools and governments are allowing this to happen without consulting parents or without consent and by removing the child and framing the parents as 'abusers'

This is an excellent piece which manages to capture how I am feeling about all of this. I am single Father to a vulnerable teenage girl who has gone through things I wouldn't wish on anyone thanks to an abusive mother whom I have only recently been able to rescue her from. She is questioning everything at the moment and the last thing on earth that she needs is exposure to any of this cynical abusive nonsense/(nonce sense)? It is the very fact that her School absolutely refused to "keep secrets" on behalf of her mother that enabled me to intervene and prevent further abuse. How dare anyone attempt to undermine these long established child and parental rights and safeguarding principals. Article 2 of the section Fundamental Freedoms from the European Commission on Human Rights states: "In the exercise

of any functions which it assumes in relation to education and to

teaching, the State shall respect the right of parents to ensure such

education and teaching in conformity with their own religious and

philosophical convictions" - this is NOT up for debate!

Thank you for writing this!

If you read comments on twitter they most certainly are not buying it Karen. It's overwhelming the opposition to trans, so there is hope!~

Don’t know where you got the idea, but your opening has nothing to do with Family Therapy. And generally. Family therapists are psychotherapists. I know a lot of family therapists and can’t imagine any of them talking in this way. Psychotherapy is exactly what is needed by young people and their families struggling with sexual identity issues. Gender dysphoria is too challenging to be left to the ideologues or the pushers of testosterone.

I can tell you that the “psychotherapist” we brought our 13year old daughter to, not only shut us out as parents and fully affirmed without question my daughter as being “trans”..she coached her as to what to say to SickKids hospital gender clinic do she could get hormone blockers as soon as possible. After our first 50min consultation with SickKids, they told my daughter she was a good candidate for Lupron and could get her first shot after the mandatory 90 day waiting period. We never went back.

Please make your experiences public on Facebook and elsewhere, it is very important to report the existence of so-called gender clinic specialists who seem to have little sense of an individual conscience in their 'practice'!

Welp, therapists are already getting canceled for non compliance.

The American pediatric association already has an official recommendation of affirmation ONLY treatment.

That means, if you treat a minor and don’t immediately affirm their gender transition, you are going against APA guidance.

My personal therapist diagnosed my child as trans, sight unseen. I’m trying to explain my skepticism, given the abrupt changes since middle school, but I’m considered a bigot for not buying a chest binder now.

There’s a concurrent suicidality, body dysmorphia and schizoaffective disorder, but no one dares question my child wanting to transition.

2 years ago, she played wanted LOL dolls and half the clothes at Justice. This morning she announced relief that her friends reassured them of how masculine she looked.

The rates of children reported to be trans over the past 5 years, has been a hockey puck line graph.

This line of “you want a dead x or alive y?” has been reported by parents over and over again, in counseling sessions.

I agree there are SOME legitimately trans people, but we are ALSO living through a contagion where insecure kids are latching onto the trans rights movement as the new solution to what ails them.

This is the best article that I have read for a while. Easy to understand and powerful. I will be using this quite often. Thank you

Sorry but how on earth is anyone ever going to'prove' something which is so deeply emotional, personal and human ? If someone just feels bad do they need to prove it? No. You just trust their Word. Why would they make it up? Scientific proof is of very little use in a whole swathe of the human experience.

Hester, that's the point. It's extremely subjective. So you can't automatically affirm and medicalise such a personal, even changeable issue especially in minors. Do you not feel the slightest curiosity as to why there has been an explosion over the last 15 years in children presenting to gender clinics? Isn't there an interesting 'why' here? Many people felt the way you are describing. They've now changed and detransitioned. Their stats and their voices are silenced because of the powerful counterpoint they provide to the debate.

if someone feels bad, do you accept it and agree to a lobotomy? Or do you try to help them not feel so bad or even think about why they might be feeling that way, especially when they're teenagers? See if you can work through it and feel better.

One feels like jumping off a high bridge because life is not worth living. Do you trust their word and allow them to do so? Do you encourage them to take their own life, maybe pointing out that jumping into the water may not actually kill them instantly and therefore maybe they should find better alternatives?

Or do you find a REASON for their "feelings" and help them to find a way to come to terms with that reason (or reasons) to enable them to not have the "feelings" to take their own life?

Which is it?

Exactly right. Why are people buying into this absurdity? If some adult wants to take the bold, risky move of medically altering their body to appear as the opposite sex, and if they believe this will make them feel more comfortable (I think they usually do this because they don’t feel comfortable bucking gender stereotypes and I feel for them and wish they could feel comfortable to express being without medical intervention but understand that society may not accept a woman acting very masculine or, more often, a man being very feminine and may not “treat him like a lady” without him looking like a lady), that’s their choice and good luck to them. I wish them well. However, there is no proof and no logical basis to believe that this is the one and only treatment for anyone - particularly a confused teenager - who feels uncomfortable with their sexed body. Discomfort and confusion are the hallmarks of teenagers - and the idea that teenagers should be medically altered based on those feelings makes me extremely uneasy. Allowing for gender non-conformity -let your son play with Barbies and wear princess dresses or your teenage daughter cut her hair short and wear masculine clothes - should theoretically go a long way toward eliminating feelings of discomfort. Time and maturity should resolve the rest of the problems for almost everyone. If there are a few adults who still simply cannot be happy without medical alterations, again, let them do it and live happily. There is no reason to medically alter teenagers. Amd no reason to tell small children they were born in the wrong body or that they are “really” a boy or girl, despite their biological reality. We need to stop and think and be careful before we pump synthetic hormones through our teenagers’ bodies. Thank you, Pitt

Actually for this reason trans activists target young adults, especially girls, and university campuses are a prime target

Expand full comment

The greatest targets are schools, where children are exposed to trans ideology via the nonsense that they have a 'gender choice', instead of helping them to be happy and feel content with the sex they are born with! It is really a capital crime to mess with children! Including trying to engage them in LGBTQ propaganda!

Theoretically Karen N's argument makes perfect sense, but practically Christina is right: trans activists will absolutely use any indication of gender non-conformity against kids' birth sex -- as "evidence" that they are trans. I've seen it first hand.

We should absolutely continue to help kids feel comfortable with their sex by lifting artificial stereotypes and gender barriers on behavior and appearance, but we must also recognize that this approach is a two-edged sword in today's world.
