Let's stop the social negotiating of suggesting that some people might "really" be trans. One can be seriously emotionally troubled and yet highly intelligent and articulate, like Debbie Hayton or Buck Angel. It's like any other compulsion to harm oneself to relieve mental distress. It should be absolutely unacceptable among rational people to see the adulatory articles and photos of now-"Elliot" Page which reveal a profoundly-ill person showing off her mutilations.
We need to stop accepting the misuse of language. Gender refers only to language. Language is gendered; people are sexed. A person's private need to live as another sex doesn't require society to accept the issuing of fraudulent replacement birth certificates or participation in incorrect sex categories for sports etc. You wish to change your name? Fine; you may legally be called "Ethel" instead of "Ed" because that harms no one. But "Ethel" can't join the girls' track team.
There aren't harmless or kind lies. There are just lies.
I completely agree. There are some troubled /self harming yet sometimes highly articulate and otherwise functional adult people who wish to "live as another sex". Fine. Let's be kind. It doesn't follow that being "really trans" has any meaning and we ought to stop pretending that it does. My best understanding is that with the men the psychological problem divides into straight (autogynephilia) and gay (androphilic) subcategories. As for Page - she is indeed profoundly ill whatever the reasons and ought not to be celebrated for it as it is so bad for the young. Also, she can't act :)
We should not accept the misuse of language, indulge an ideology, upend society, and turn a blind eye to reality.
I think there's no point in trying to define the "reason" someone wants to live as another sex. The examples you cite are theories; they may be good ones but they remain conjecture.
I very well understand the hunger to escape one's real self by name change, religion change, etc. It takes a very long time and lots of life experience to recognize that "wherever you go, there you are." Self-loathing is a bad disease.
Since I wrote this personal essay, some influential psychologists, Laura Edwards-Leeper and Erica Anderson, have spoken up in the Washington Post. https://wapo.st/3EelVvm
Laura Edwards-Leeper, is the founding psychologist of the first pediatric transgender clinic in the U.S., is the chair of the Child and Adolescent Committee for the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. It sounds like push back has those two running scared for their careers. They are still pro teen medical harm but claim that WPATH standards are just misinterpreted & throw some of their fellows under the bus for not screening teens for "true" v. fake trans. Their fear/real concern shows at the end when they write: "The fact that some people detransition does not mean that transgender people should not receive the services they need."
I have to say that I think it is a serious mistake to think that the GOP defends our rights better than the Democrats. I've seen posts, for example, about Republican Texas enacting Tort reform that made it impossible to sue surgeons for malpractice after they'd butchered someone's genitals.
Who in Pharma is profiting? This is above party politics. It is institutional capture across the board.
I also don't think the judiciary will save us from this.
There needs to be room in our understanding for the fact that some people honestly think they are doing the right thing by transitioning children. Our best hope, I think, is to push back with compassion, with reason, and with persuasion. For example, I personally do not think anyone has the right to deprive another individual of their sexual function & fertility. And I do not think children, teens & youth have the ability to understand what such a sacrifice means. I do not think they can give informed consent. Let's take this debate to that visceral level. Because adults who think they can decide which kids are "truly trans" and which are not ... are mistaken & are taking on much more responsibility than is their right.
I so agree: "I personally do not think anyone has the right to deprive another individual of their sexual function & fertility. And I do not think children, teens & youth have the ability to understand what such a sacrifice means. I do not think they can give informed consent."
The WPATH radicals are responsible for this. Let's not forget them regarding lawsuit plans, especially Leeper who seems to believe cozying up to parents admonishes her somehow from the harm she has helped inflict on families and vulnerable young people. These people are making loads of money off our vulnerable young people. The tide is changing.
Many people have suggested trans activism is about power - make people say what they know is false, like 'trans women are women', and it shows you've won.
But this article made me think something else for the first time. Maybe this lust for power is also a lust for cruelty. To damage people.
There's a psychiatrist in Australia who is Gender Critical & wrote an essay that compares trans medicalization to other extremely cruel medical treatments. The one she focuses on was new to me: treating advanced syphilis with intentionally infecting the patients with MALARIA. She writes how the cruelty is part of the driving forces in such "treatments". Here's a link, no paywall!: https://doi.org/10.1007/s10508-021-02232-0
This has become such a nightmare. If only one brave politician hit pause, I believe that so many more would follow. They are all scared to go first. They don't know that we would make them heroes for it.
First, I am very sorry to hear about your tragedy and wish you all the luck fighting for your young adult child.
I completely agree that Gender Ideology concerns must transcend the political divide. We must join together liberal and conservative; LGB and straight (a true alliance not the school clubs that are about Trans indoctrination); religious, very religious, agnostic, and actual atheist (gender ideology is a religion for those think they have none), Democrat (Brandon went to a town hall and celebrated the transition of a 9 year old girl during his campaign and somehow people are surprised about the bent of this administration), Republican (they were wrong not to speak out about "the cultural stuff" much), and the unaffiliated (I've voted for both parties and never registered with either until pretty recently when I decided the Rs are the lesser of two evils), the Social Justice Warriors and those who roll their eyes and smile at Social Justice Warriors... We must all stand up for reality in this Orwellian nightmare.
Some of the doctors and pharma people ought to be in jail. Perhaps the mothers who transition minors should be as well (this is child abuse). Were you aware that Diane Ehrenshaft (the doctor who said if a girl has regrets she can have new breasts made - no big deal) was part of a previous craze you mention (satanic abuse). One of the biggest problems is our education system in the US. There have been wonderful teachers in my family but I have come to think the Department of Education (too big to fail?) and the teachers unions should be shut down. Their mission has drifted too far from the three Rs and from negotiating things like salary. They've been co-opted by those who push Gender.
Agree. Something else is happening. About fourteen years back, my niece's baby-daddy announced he was going to get a degree in Education. I was pleasantly surprised.
"Why education," I asked?
His response, "I want to pass my values onto the next generation--I'm an anarchist."
"Oh!" I chirped.
It was such an odd story that I told everyone about the guy going to school to promote anarchy. But now, I think he must have been just the tip of the ice burg. Teachers are now activists. Where/when/how did they all get the memo?
This is my worst nightmare as my son goes off to college next year! Thank you for speaking up! Living this every day is like a type of grief nobody has a word for. Hoping your son can find a way to peace in his own body before it is too late!
Unfortunately, college is a terrible environment for any young person who is vulnerable to this gender cult. You might want to consider encouraging him to take a year off doing something outdoors between high school and college - maybe with animals.
Yes, "frustrated" doesn't begin to describe the feeling. ... right now it seems my kid is in a position of coercion and undue influence. What leverage do I have against all the "authorities" who sell the delusion that a person can literally change sex, and push hormones & surgery?
I'm so very sorry to hear the heartbreaking story about your dear son. And I hope you'll soon be able to rescue him so he can get the care he needs to live life as a man. I also agree with you that protecting today's teens and young people from dangerous and aggressive transgender zealots should never have become a political issue.
Unfortunately, the very first thing President Biden did on the day he was inaugurated (and I voted for him) was issue an executive order to prevent" discrimination" on the basis of "gender identity." And when Biden's new four star admiral, "Rachel" Levine, declared himself a "female," that added insult to injury. These highly political acts of payback to the billionaire funded transgender activist crowd explains why transgender indoctrination is even worse now than it was when your son started college.
Like it or not, "transgenderism" has become a political issue. One thing we can do to make our gender critical voices heard this December is to donate money to the Women's Human Rights Campaign so they can send copies of Kara Dansky's powerful new book, "The Abolition of Sex: How the "Transgender" Agenda Harms Women and Girls." Every $12 donated will send one copy of this book to a member of Congress. I just made my donation, and I urge you all to do the same.
As long as the Democrats continue to kowtow to the AOC/extreme left wing of their party, I cannot and will not support them. If that means sitting out an election or even voting for the opposition, I will. But if you choose to work through the Democatic party,
Thank you for your good wishes. This is an awesome campaign by the Women's Human Rights Campaign & I hope people contribute. I am going to contribute to it myself.
Well done for bravely writing truth. People must listen to what you have to say. The mental health issues are being ignored and our young people are being sterilised. As a mother of a female victim of this epidemic, I feel this is not good “eugenics”. It is scandalous barbarous. My daughter being on the autistic spectrum, there is no justification for sterilisation by deceit.
Thank you, Peg. It is so unbelievable what is happening to our youth. ... The doctors who push this so-called medical care are truly deluded. They might think they are doing good, but they are harming our youth. "Sterilization by deceit" is a very powerful phrase and you are right. I hope you put that in writing to anyone giving your daughter treatment. If the clinic has a "legal office" or ethics officer, send them the same letter.

Same here but mine is a daughter. Nothing to do because she is “an adult”. Said frustrated is little to compared with what I feel today
