Wow. I'm so sorry you went through all that, and I'm glad you had the ability to share it. I believe adults in this country have lost the plot -- so many are pushing kids to be little Olympians, little Chess Masters, little Ivy League Scholarship Winners, they are completely destroying childhood. I am so glad you found the strength to get away and get clear of these people, and the compassion to share your story.

If I may nitpick one little thing -- and you're 21, you can't possibly be aware of this at this point, you are immersed in a culture that does this all the time -- there is no need to announce that you are not a conservative and equate conservativism with hidden bigotry. That in itself is a form a prejudice you have learned from the trans movement: Conservatives are bigots and can't possibly be good people.

Conservatives are people. Sure, there are bigots among them, just like there are bigots among every group of people, liberals and trans activists included. But overall, the conservatives I know are loving and kind. It kills us to see the trans movement tearing families apart and ruining young lives, not because we hate "those people", but because we love these people and it hurts to see them go down obviously wrong paths.

Like I said, not a reflection on you, I see that sort of disclaimer all over the place, it's practically the air we breathe these days. Otherwise, a truly moving article, and one with immediate relevance to a young friend of mine.

Thank you for posting this. It is an interesting perspective and always good to see parallels from other experiences. You don’t need to preface your thoughts with statements about not being a bigot. We have all done it, but one of the most notable changes in recent years is that your opinions are valid in their own right - there is no longer a need to contextualise your views within an allyship / liberal context. The only people who ever said you or I were bigots were the ones who wanted to shut us up and make us feel that our opinions were ‘wrong’. x
