Your article should be published in all media outlets, but of course that won't happen until someone with enough power to influence shouts out "but the emperor has no clothes!".

The pediatric field has lost my respect and confidence in its judgment. I see no science to back up unnecessary surgical solutions to either trans or obese children.

For the latter, doctors should be advocating for mandatory PE for every able-bodied child. Get the kids out there and start moving. No excuses. That will alleviate depression, a welcome benefit.

The opt-out track has hurt society and our youth. Students have opted out of biology by taking some pseudo-science class. Big mistake. Critical thinking comes with the territory of math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, arithmetic, at very least) and science (chemistry, biology, physics).

Mutilating children’s bodies is not the solution to obesity or trans identity.

Utterly brilliant, thank you for very succinctly making the case of rampant hypocrisy by the medical establishment.

Gentle suggestion that you are missing the entire point of this post. The writer is not expressing any opinion or judgement about weight, plus size, etc, only drawing a comparison between medical concerns for that group vs the lack of medical concerns for gender confused kids. It's not about weight at all. Did you read the whole thing? And there's some parody in there. Give it another read and I bet you'll get it.

Very good observations.

Glad to see you recognized that the hypocrisy isn't that deep, in that they are following their time tested model...don't take the time and money, to identify the cause and treat that...in the case of the fat kids...physical activity replaced with screens, poor generational eating habits, economic issues, processed food damage and the collusion between big food, big pharma and gov bureaucracies...instead turn a profit with pills, surgery and the sweet pabulum of "we know what' best for you, it's not your fault...after you take this pill or get this surgery, you can eat as much junk food and high fructose corn syrup as you want".

As you know, the same type methodology is true for the trans issues, you're dealing with now.

This won't change so long as they have readymade customers.

Resisting individually is where it must start, but in order to every have a meaningful, larger impact, we all must take a page form the enemies playbook...NUMBERS....10 parents refusing to get their kids jabbed, or showing up at school board meetings is fine, but 1000 is more impactful, 5000 is even more powerful and 20,000 is transformative.

You have a great start here. ALL of you together have the ability to build momentum and mass. Large groups that move as one (in nature and societies) are impactful.

Imagine if you had tens of thousands of parents stop buying junk food for their kids and that turned into hundreds of thousands and so on.

Crazy right...it'll never work.

If that is true, then how did the trans activists do it?

in less than a decade, they have states taking parental rights away, kids being allowed to decide if they want medical treatment and legislation declaring that trans is a real thing, men in women's locker rooms...you know their list of victories, as well as I do.

We never really organize, past the crisis in front of us, or the next election cycle.

However, numbers are the key and you don't get numbers, without organizing and sticking together.

People wouldn't do it over censorship with social media, they wouldn't do it over mandates, they haven't done it over the genocide of the jabs...maybe they will over their kids.

You parents here are proof that the commitment and resolve exists, now you just have to learn to move as one body...or maybe you've already figured that out. If so, then don't waste a moment...grow your numbers as quickly as possible.

I always say, the enemy NEVER sleeps...they are hunting your children 24/7.

This is not the only bit of medical hypocrisy on display. Since it is impossible change your sex, the affirmation model is all about affirming and colluding with delusional thinking. So why is the affirmation model never used when dealing with those suffering with anorexia? What about those women who develop puerperal psychosis after having a baby and are convinced that they need to kill either themselves or their babies? They "know" that the devil whispering in their ear is real, but they are not affirmed in their beliefs. And mental health facilities are full of those convinced that their delusions are real, because to them, they absolutely are. Why are they not allowed to carry out the instructions that they hear in their heads? What is the medical justification for this highly selective promotion of supporting immature brains to "know" themselves so well that affirmation is the only way forward?

It's a shame it's not a country song we could play backwards and get all those things back like that old joke said. I'm sorry, but I have been in this crazy, upside down world for so long I have to laugh sometimes or I think I might lose my mind.

My daughter has been trying to become a man for 7 long years! At best she will only Look like a boy (she's always been petite) at worst she won't be around long enough to realize her mistake. I hope I don't sound too flippant. I'm just so tired! I see a glimmer of hope in these articles I read here. Then I plunge into the abyss again.

I am holding on to my hope in God and I am asking him every morning to not let go of me!

When I was a kid in school in the 1960s there was a fat kid. He was THE fat kid, a condition so rare it made him a sort of celebrity. Maybe parents should do what was done back then--kick their butts out of the house every morning so they can spend the day running around, riding their bikes, playing ball, climbing trees, and all that other stuff we used to do back in medieval times to burn off lard.

Please see my comments, above, about how weight prejudice, dieting, and diet culture, cause weight gain. This is true for a super-majority of people who attempt to lose weight. Because restrictive eating and exercise-dieting are setups for makeup eating and binging. Especially on sweets and fats. Its an evolutionary biological survival mechanism. And the medical profession, except for eating disorder professionals and some registered dietitians, are largely ignorant of this. I include loads of information about this and a citation to a blog in my comments. The blog, by an RD, is filled with a wide range of citations from medical research.

Uhh yeah no. It’s the fact that a majority of Americans are getting a majority of their caloric intake from ultra-processed foods and they’re completely ignorant to the effects of those choices. People are stupid and lazy and corporations know this and produce cheap “food” that is gobbled up without a second thought.

Sure, that's exactly what diet culture profiteers, the Medical Dieting Indistrial Complex, want us to believe.

Did you read the entirety of my several posts, please? Did you visit Christy Harrison's site, to read any of her blog posts? She's worked with thousands of clients, actually looking at their dietary patterns and discussing with them how they choose what they eat. Have you done that detailed academic and dietary counseling work? Or are you making assumptions based on "this is what we've all been told, therefore it must be true?" Just as so many people are doing regarding gender identity?

How do you explain all the highly educated plus-size people who read every label, have been on every diet, shop at natural foods stores and read the same sort of information that you do, and beat themselves up for their overwhelming cravings born of starvation?

How do you explain people's overwhelming cravings for less nutritious foods sharply decreasing when they stop dieting and restricting, and allow themselves to eat enough all day? And end up with overall more nutritious eating patterns, even though they no longer deny themselves any kind of food? (From research cited by Ellyn Satter, RD.)

How do you explain people like me, who have been dieting and restricting since age 14, and have been reading every ingredient and the nutrition facts on labels since age 15 (until recently, as part of recovery), who, like me, apprenticed on an organic farm, and worked in a natural foods store, and spend hours per week carefully planning out a menu, and doing nutritional calculations by hand, if the overwhelming cravings aren't being caused by the restricting I still do, leading to binging? And when I don't restrict, I don't binge?

How do you explain that dietary intake studies of rats, who are among the most similar to humans in digestive issues, so they're the ones chosen for animal studies on nutrition, how is it that study after study has found that rats only eat more than a taste of "highly palatable food" (higher in sugar, fat, and calories), unless they've been dieted, first? Why do they ignore the highly palatable food if there are unlimited amounts of regular rat food left in their cages, from which they can feed freely all day and night? Why don't they eat the highly palatable foods except after being dieted, if it's not from the effects of satiation versus the effects of dieting (excess hunger from deprivation)?

Why are there so many thin people who never read a nutrition label and live on high-sugar, high-fat, low nutrition snack and fast food, eating their fill whenever they want, and never gain an ounce?

While there are so many plus-size people who restrict and watch every calorie and other nutrition content?

How come every time I go to a supermarket, a fat person near me points to a food item and says, oh, those are so delicious, but I shouldn't, and I reply, challenging them compassionately, why shouldn't you? And after they say, "It would blow my diet," or, "I need to to lose weight," I ask them gently, "Did you eat breakfast this morning?" and they look shocked--jaw dropped--and they reply, "No. How did you know that??" And I reply, "Because undereating causes overeating, and less nutritious food cravings: higher in calories, sugar, and fat, and lower in other nutrients. Undereating breakfast, snack, and lunch cause late-day cravings for foods higher in sugar, fat, and calories, and lower in other nutrients. Don't blame yourself for your cravings, allow your body to have what it's telling you it needs under the circumstances. But please try prioritizing eating a full breakfast, snacks, lunch, dinner, and evening snacks, not with diet foods, but just regular, non-dieting meal foods, and see what happens to your level of cravings and hunger. Don't deprive yourself of anything you want, but see how you feel and you end up eating when you stop dieting and allow yourself to truly eat enough all day. Please try shifting your focus from weight to self-acceptance."

How come I grew up in a home that had its share of "junk foods," (ice cream, cookies, chips, candy) but I didn't have much interest in them or eat much if them until my doctor put me on that first diet? After which, literally overnight, I thought about and craved those foods all the time, amd in huge quantities, until they were all gone? How would this be true if it weren't for the effects of food restriction on hunger and appetite (appetite refers to food preferences).

Yeah…. Skipping meals is stupid. So is eating processed crap from the store. Eat Whole Foods, ie eggs, meat, organs, and fruit. Bread if you make it yourself with a sourdough starter. Problem solved! Why don’t you look into a carnivore diet or ancestral diet? Being extremely obese was literally never a problem for all of humanity. It’s not “attitudes” and “diet culture” making people fat now lol. Your whole posts reek of projection. I’m sorry if you’ve struggled with weight and eating disorders. Again, try a carnivore or at least ancestral diet. Good luck!

Lard????

Wow, the bigotry in this article against larger kids does NOT give you or anyone else here permission to be similarly bigoted toward plus-size kids.

This author and you, and the AAP, are indeed bigoted and ignorant about larger kids, and larger people.

Please educate yourself.

A good start would be Christy Harrison, registered dietitian's, free weekly blog about disordered eating, and the ways in which dieting and exercise-dieting CAUSE chaotic relationships with food, exercise, and crushing self-esteem.

Eating disorders are the second leading cause of suicide. It's ignorance and attitudes such as those displayed by the AAP and this article's author, that are the main cause of eating disorders.

Most people with EDs can remember, years later, the first cutting remarks anyone ever made to them about their size. Those words live in their head, driving the ED for years, or decades.

The median life span for people with untreated EDs is terrifyingly low. So low, I'm not going to repeat it here.

Please visit ChristyHarrison.com to sign up. A 5-minute weekly read by an excellent author, journalist, researcher, and licensed dietitian and certified disordered eating expert.

Please don't throw around hateful terms and assumptions about larger people and their bodies.

Why the distinction? Well, that's obvious. Unlike obese children, Trans Children (we capitalize the terms now to signify a class of people, rather than erasing them or disrespecting them) have to be true to their GENDER IDENTITY (all caps to emphasize its importance). Obesity is not an identity. It's just a physical characteristic that can change. However, "male," "female" and "non-binary" are Identities that mut be protected at all costs! We will only treat obese children with medications if they actually benefit their physical health. (Of course, we don't really care about their physical health because, if we did, we would help these children the only way that we actually know is beneficial and has no negative side effects - with nutrition and exercise. We're really just looking for short-cuts that make it "easy" for them to lose weight quickly and not have to suffer the short-term consequences of being fat - but let's not discuss that because it might cause Big Pharma and the medical community in general to lose a lot of new customers - yes, customers, not patients.)

Anyway, we excuse the fact that all of the chemical and surgical alterations we are pushing on vulnerable young Trans Children have absolutely no medical benefits, and absolutely have negative consequences by pointing to the undefined, undefinable GENDER IDENTITY that we, for some unexplained reason, must support by altering the physical appearance of these distressed young people's bodies.

I hope that clears things up. I wouldn't want anyone to have to wonder why there is a double standard. It's in fact a very clear distinction. We must ignore the fact that GENDER IDENTITY makes absolutely no sense, and not only causes the destruction of healthy bodies, but also convinces boys and girls that biology is irrelevant to reality, that they SHOULD hate their bodies, that they cannot ever be happy unless they destroy their bodies and hide who they are from the world. Let's just brush those thoughts aside, lest we attempt to deal with the underlying psychological issues involved. That's way to messy and complicated, and again, may cost the medical community a whole bunch of customers.

Medical community can earn money with the therapie of mental illness, so I think this is not the biggest reason of promoting trans identities. Social issues are more likely to contribute the biggest share. The most frustrating part for meis that I don't believe, someone orchestrated this mess. Internet and social networks with their algorithms are to blame. They form our childreen upon their own, permanently changing rules.
