Thank you to those of you who participated in our January Parent Survey: Has your child identified as trans. That survey has now closed, and the results are being analyzed. The data will be released on PITT in the near future. As part of our continuing efforts to better understand the current cohort of trans-identified children and young people and their families, PITT is now sharing our third survey, and the subject of this survey is Detransitioners or Desisters
I am right now watching the documentary of Kelly-Jay Keen's "Let Women Speak" tour in the US.
One of the most striking things in it is her conversation with a mother who managed to get her child to desist: "We used CULT DEPROGRAMMING tactics: cut off all negative influence, surround the child with positive influence, be on their side, and use logic, i.e. If gender is fluid, then why would you want medical intervention, as your gender might change tomorrow? Give them time and space to really think about it."
I see. I used to dress but I was the "weekend transvestite" back when we used those terms. I no longer do it. But I never went "full-time." Probably not good for this survey.
Can these surveys account for how much of a role autism, eating disorders or other comorbid conditions contribute to desistance or detransitioning? Just by what I see in parent groups, it seems autistic kids in particular are more likely to persist in the identity. I'd love to see if data could support that.
These surveys are essential. Thank you.

Cult does seem appropriate. One sided arguments with no counter voice. More than suspicious.
I know what a detransitioner is, but how would you define a desister?
No medicalized transition, before quitting the club.

Someone who socially transitioned but did not medicalize.

Yes and add to that trauma, borderline personality diagnosis and other mental health issues.
I cannot wait for my daughter to qualify to respond to this survey. Wishing y'all for your children to qualify!
