On chat boards, secret Facebook pages, WhatsApp chains, and other private messaging groups, parents are starting their final planning for meet-ups at the Genspect Denver conference this November.
I'm in the cohort of parents in the Denver area who would love to go, but cannot possibly afford the price. Though I value the work being done here, the cost is really prohibitive.
Maybe some of us could get together to livestream, and build some community that way? It would be so refreshing and healing just to be in person and have open dialogue with other parents.
Welcome to anyone able to come to our beautiful state. It’ll be chilly..bring layers. I’m so excited to see Michael S will be speaking. When I first heard genspect Denver. I immediately thought of Michael’s perspective on the power of limited and coerced speech and it’s impact on this important issue. Magic may just happen in our state with so many loving and supportive people in one conference.
Anyone know what series they are referring to? Is this going to be available to stream somehow at some point? “Uncomfortable Truths: The Reality of Gender Identity Ideology”
I’m in the Denver area and I can’t go because of the cost. Super bummed - I saw this a few weeks ago on their site. It looks totally worth it but I can’t swing it either. I wonder if there would be any chance of seeing a few speakers for a lower cost? Also, media coverage, even if small, would be awesome, especially since all the coverage around here focuses on Colorado being a sanctuary state for trans and abortion “tourism” from surrounding states, with the docs here also being protected against legal action. I know I’m probably dreaming, but who knows? Maybe a rogue reporter could sneak a lil piece by.
Thanks for doing this but the tickets are too expensive. Perhaps if they were more affordable more people would attend. We desperately need more awareness and support in fighting this evil ideology. Thank you again.
I’m estranged too, and would like to go to the Denver conference, but it’s just too expensive. I’m on the East Coast, so add airfare and hotel and the cost is prohibitive. Being estranged for so long, I also feel like “ what’s the point”? I might do it virtually, we’ll see.
I’m sorry…can someone explain why a streaming ticket to these panels and events needs to be so high? We are a low income family that has been through the WRINGER! I can see holding the event in a space is costly, but man, it’s not a good look Genspect, the making of money off of parents who’ve been seriously and actually harmed. I’m grateful for SO much of what Genspect is and does, but the money-making part….hmmm…your slip is showing….
Linda, While I don''t think that Genspect is getting rich off this conference, I sympathize with your situation. It is a lot of money for many of us. Would it be possible for Genspect to start a donation fund specifically for the tickets? Those of us who can't attend in person or streaming but can afford to donate a little sum may be able to sponsor a few fellow parents who can't afford a ticket? I don't have much, but I can donate a little. It would obviously be based on honor system who gets free tickets but we are all in the same fight here, I hope nobody will take advantage.
Yeah, I think that makes sense…but more than all of this, I think the other side is dug in partially because of the dollars that some are making…we must never allow our side to lose sight of the goals because of money…again, more folks would be there if costs were lower…so what is the goal here? Money? Or boots on the ground? Yes. We are all in the same fight, but money mustn’t create a wedge.
I’m debating attending. I really want to attend but am also nervous, I’m not an extrovert and shy from crowds, lol. But, as we’re moving to Europe to escape this insanity next spring, part of me wants to attend to fill my luggage with knowledge and camaraderie before I hit the road and go to a place where I know there won’t be as many parents dealing with this. Perhaps some of you are moving abroad too. Convince me!
Oh, you should definitely go, especially to make European connections! There will be plenty of presenters coming from the UK and Ireland, and it's an easy hop to attend UK workshops and conferences no matter where you are in Europe.
Great point Kate. This could be a way of connecting with others in Europe. We need to have a strong support network in a new place, especially regarding this.
Yes, there's typically a bit of a lag between the livestream and the website posting, but I was able to watch Killarney about a week later. It would be lovely if they offered CEUs but you'll need to email info@genspect.org to ask and/or make the suggestion that they try to get that approved--not sure how long that process is in Colorado.
I wonder if GoFundMe would accept a solicitation for donations, or would reject it as a “hate” project.

I would love more small regional meetups
Oh! Which reminds me, has anyone whatched... https://www.deadnamedocumentary.com/
Curious if it’s worth the $10.

I would be willing to donate in order to defray the cost for a low income parent to attend.

Are there going to be a cohort of estranged parents going? I’m feeling like we are the hopeless, just suck it up and accept it, misunderstood cohort.

Maybe we could get a weekend meet-up for estranged parents. I think it would be cathartic.
I'm sorry. It's heartbreaking and stressful. How are you doing?

My shy and socially anxious self will be there. I have only ever met 1 other ROGD parent face to face. I really look forward to meeting others.
Our kids don't fall far from the tree, do they?! Nice to know there will be others like me.

Same! Long time PITT parent and first time at this conference. Looking forward to it.
I'm a parent, and I am attending! Looking forward to it!
Yay! Go, and soak in the reality and support. Best wishes!
If I pay for the streaming option, can I watch it in my leisure? I have to work during the conference. Also are CEUs offered for social workers?
