Share your story with the New York Times, really
The NTY Daily podcast wants to hear from those affected by "gender affirming care"
Have you read or heard mainstream media stories about trans-identified children, young adults or families with one and thought you would lose your mind over the misrepresentation and, sometimes, outright falsehoods presented? This is your chance to speak up. There might be a deadline so do this right away.
The staff at the New York Times Daily podcast recently put out this request:
“In the past couple of years, nearly half the states in the US have passed bans on gender-affirming care for kids. The Trump administration is now targeting that care. And in the coming weeks, the Supreme Court is expected to weigh in. Amidst all of that, some of our colleagues here on “The Times” audio team have been working on a project about where this care came from, who it was meant to help, and how it got pulled into a political fight that could end it altogether. The team making that show is looking to hear from kids and parents about their direct experience with gender-affirming care. If that’s you, what has your experience been with pediatric gender medicine? How have recent government actions affected you? And how are you feeling about the future? If you’re willing to share your story, please send us a short voice memo to thedaily@nytimes.com
PITT editors realize you may have further questions. Here is what we don’t know:
Is there a deadline for submission?
Must it be a voice memo?
Might they play your voice memo on the show?
Are they interested in stories related solely to pediatric gender medicine?
PITT readers - now is the time to share your story. Be brief. Remember it’s voice memos only and they have requested “short”. Think about the key points you’d like to make and practice before hand. Even if this podcast addresses only care for minors, if they are overwhelmed with stories of harm to young adults, perhaps they will reconsider and widen their scope. Based on their previous coverage of this topic and their reference to “gender affirming care”, we know where the Times stands on this issue - firmly in the pro trans-ideology camp. Share your experience with school, doctors, therapists, etc. Tell them what “gender affirming care” has done to your child.
Thank you for your comments. The email address for The NYT daily podcast has been updated to : thedaily@nytimes.com
Please, as many of you as possible with stories to tell, take all the great advice from the PITT editors and do this! Numbers count. Do it mindfully and carefully as if it matters. Share your stories beyond the safe havens like PITT. I get the cynical and bitter comments about the NYT. The best that will emerge is still probably going to enrage you. But if you do not show up in numbers, those advocating this "care" will certainly do so. Why would you let their voices be heard again and again, but not take a chance to have your voice heard?? Do it without hope, but knowing it is a step that MIGHT make a difference. Remember--PITT only exists so that one day it will no longer be needed. Do not make assumptions about how the change will eventually happen. Just show up and be part of the change.
