The LGBT Courage Coalition sent out this appeal on September 19. Please support the cause by contacting your representative. All information on how to call or email them is below.
We are asking you to call your US House of Representative’s Washington, DC office about HR 3887.
HR 3887 is the Children’s Hospital GME Support Reauthorization Act and is sponsored by Rep. Dan Crenshaw.
Rep. Crenshaw is the badass who adeptly questioned Secretary Becera, Dr. Meredithe McNamara, and Dr. Miriam Grossman.
The proposed bill would eliminate all funding for the education and training for medical residents and fellows in children’s hospitals that provide “gender affirming care.” The bill has exceptions for hospitals providing care for differences of sexual development (DSDs), mental health care, and detransition care.
You can find your representative here.
Call your representative’s office. Ask to speak to the staff member responsible for healthcare policy. If they are unavailable, you may still proceed with the staff member who answers the phone.
Ask that your representative co-sponsor HR 3887 or thank them if they are already one of the 32 co-sponsors sponsoring the bill.
Request that HR 3887 be brought to the US House floor for debate and a VOTE!
Share a few sentences about why you are opposed to pediatric “gender affirming care.” If you are a parent, a Detransitioner, or an LGBT adult, share a little bit of your story. Keep it brief.
Thank the office staff for their time.
You can also email your representative. Most have a “contact me” link on their home page. Here’s an example one liberal parent sent. Tailor yours to your situation and political persuasion.
I am writing to ask Rep. xxx to support HR 3887 and request that it be brought to the US House floor for debate and a vote. I am a life-long, liberal Democrat who supports the rights of the LGBTQA++ community. But I am very concerned about the medicalization of children and young adults. I encourage Rep. xxx and his staff to "follow the science" and review the Cass Report (https://cass.independent-review.uk/home/publications/final-report/) on this issue. And to discover why many European countries have moved off the gender affirmation model.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Rep. Nadler joined an Amicus Brief in the case of United States v. Skrmetti, where they wrote in support of performing procedures on children to attempt to appear as the opposite sex. I have written in support of HR 3887, but my hopes are not high.
Emailed my rep and got this expected response:

Dear Ms. ,
Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns about protecting transgender rights. I appreciate you taking the time to write to me about your thoughts. Serving as your representative in Congress is a tremendous privilege, and I deeply value your input.
I believe every American should receive the same degree of dignity and respect, no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity.
State lawmakers have introduced nearly 500 bills attacking the rights of LGBTQ+ people in just the first half of 2024, and nearly 50 anti-trans bills have been introduced in the 118th Congress. This onslaught of anti-trans legislation and accompanying anti-trans rhetoric directly harms some of the most vulnerable people in our country.
Almost half of all transgender people in the United States will attempt suicide at least once in their life, and nearly 20% of trans youth attempted suicide in 2023. Furthermore, transgender people are over four times more likely than cisgender people to experience violent victimization, including rape, sexual assault and aggravated or simple assault.
Supporting transgender rights should be an issue of compassion and humanity, not a partisan one. That is why I was proud to host a roundtable in October of 2023, featuring conservative parents of transgender children, to gain insight about how we can work together to advocate for trans equality across the aisle.
We cannot keep waking up to news of more violence and discrimination against the transgender community. That is why I am unapologetically fighting to protect transgender rights. Until transgender people are guaranteed full equality in every aspect of life, I will not be quiet or stop fighting for their rights every single day. While we may not agree on every issue, I appreciate you expressing your concerns. I will be sure to keep your input in mind as I consider legislation coming across my desk.
Again, thank you for getting in touch with me. If you have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call us at 202-225-3106.
