Is there anyone who can recommend a therapist such as the one you described? We are in DESPERATE need. We are located in PA

Illinois’ “conversion” therapy ban is not limited to “sexual orientation.” Years ago, the Illinois Human Rights Act included something unusual. It defined “sexual orientation” as inclusive of “gender identity.” So, any law passed that addresses “sexual orientation” automatically addresses “gender identity” as well. Those “trans”-cultists are cunning little devils.

Good therapists are a first line of defense for nuero diverse kids. By not allowing them to do their jobs states are participating in gross child abuse. Talking things through with an expert is very essential to sort out anxiety conflicts social issues these kids face. Hormones on the other hand are dangerous experiments that have never been proven to work short or long term. Thank you for highlighting this important issue.

Most gay 'boys' identify with/as girls before they find out they are gay. There is no therapists forcing gays to acknowledge their femininity and transsexualism, rather they are sent to therapists because of that. Zero comparison with Alan Turing being injected with diethylstilbestrol so he would lose his sexual urges, not to try to transition him. Maryam Molkara chose to take female hormones and transition and was detained in a psychiatric institution and forcibly injected with testosterone because of this. And she's the reason Iran is a safe haven for middle eastern trans women. Although the government misconstrues her experience to force surgeries onto people. I guess you all have chosen to ignore this article's blatant islamophobia..

Kenneth Zucker forcing trans girls to believe they are boys is conversion therapy and child abuse. Absolutely zero people are forcing gay boys to get castrated and grow up to be women. And many therapists openly seek to prevent that from happening. Also in most countries outside of the western world, gay refers to all homosexual males and there is little distinction made between transsexuals and gay men. This article depends on the meaningless distinction while trying to erase transsexualism entirely and construe it as being forced upon by therapists and physicians. Ignoring its ancient history completely.

Most transsexual men today are heterosexual men with a sexual fetish imagining themselves as women, or dressed in women's clothing. Unfortunately homophobia in the West is at an all time high and it's easy to see why young homosexuals are being sucked into believing that one can actually be born in the wrong body. The more kids and young adults that do it, the more legitimate the movement becomes. Big Pharma, Transhumanists, and actual homophobic bigots have a lot riding on this. No one misconstrues anything going on in Iran. If you are a homosexual man you transition, or you hang. There is no choice.

Yes its terrible how its better be Trans than gay in Islamic countries, there is such pressure, fear of death, & gays are coerced to physical and chemical interventions. It's truly horrific conversion therapy. And you are celebrating and mixing facts to support the same in Western countries?

Gender confusion is multi factorial. There are dependencies on sexual orientation and there are other factors that have known to cause it ( Autism, PTSD, Abuse, Trauma etc etc). Understanding the root cause is key to treatment and that is what good therapist do. So what is your point exactly ?

What is the essence of us as humans , is it our body ? Is it our mind ,our desires or is it something else. What keeps us alive and functioning with a purpose that drives life itself. It is only through reflection can we address existential questions. Most gender confused children get a headstart into questioning the self. Through the right coaching and talk therapy they can resolve it to reach a happy state. Costa et Al conclude that psychological support is an effective path to resolve such identity crisis over invasive and long term harmful disruptions to the endocrine system. Our essence is consciousness, not stereotypical bodily expressions. How we live our lives conscious of our importance to others will lead us to happy state. Good Psychotherapy will help cut through the noise of daily obsessive thoughts and reach the core of our self. With such a coach we can quieten the constant flow of negative thoughts and false association and reflect to connect with our true purpose of life.

Ancient societies did not have modern scientific processes and had homophobic inclinations so they created seperate societies for divergent people of all types. Islam prohibits same sex by dictat and calling Iran a safe haven for anything that the mullahs do not want is juvenile thinking. Dr Zucker just published desistence of 88 percent of the boys in his clinic. If it was an innate biological he was trying to help change why did he achieve such high desistence. Only in the topsy turvy trans world open inducement to brain shrinking hormones is affirmation but talk is conversion. Young people are forcibly castrated without sound counseling. Then they regret it like the 23000 kids on r/detrans .

"This is the horrible contradiction this sly legislation has wrought. Inserted into bills that purport to end mistreatment of homosexuals is language that mandates the mistreatment of homosexuals." Homophobia is at the heart of trans medical policy. Trans activists are very aware what decades of research have shown: if we leave gender-confused kids alone and accept them as they are, when they reach puberty most of them will come to terms with their sex and their same-sex attraction. Denying children insight therapy in order to suppress their gay identity and recruit them for medicalization is so evil it's hard to fathom.

And in the case of your son, with his serious mental health issues, had you not lucked out and found the principled, compassionate therapist that you did, who knows where your son would be today? His therapist is quite insightful; one wonders how he managed to remain uncorrupted in a field that seems to have lost its way entirely: therapists now just avoid the tough cases, where addressing suicidality, self-harm and gender confusion might force them to actually work for a living.

Along these lines, I've noticed that many respected public intellectuals and journalists avoid the third rail of gender altogether. For instance, I heard social psychologist Jonathan Haidt, co-author of the excellent book "The Coddling of the American Mind," tell Dan Crenshaw that he never discusses gender, despite the fact that his area of expertise is the current mental health crisis among adolescents and young adults. He literally said gender was a "taboo" subject for him. Thank you for nothing, Dr. Haidt.

Hey, at least he acknowledges how extreme the divide has become.

Beware demonization. He's a good guy.

Expand full comment

He is a good guy, I agree. His lectures and research and the book he wrote with Greg Lukianoff are impressive. While the majority of his work is focused on moral psychology and business ethics, he's also an expert in adolescent and young adult psychological trends, and the link (in teenage girls especially) between cutting, depression, anxiety, suicide, social media and obsession with gender is glaringly obvious. I certainly haven't demonized him. But his decision to pretend gender issues don't exist is disappointing, given how much he knows and how influential he could be in bringing more attention to the problem.

My guess is there will be a sudden preference cascade and then such people (and most people) will speak up. As a society we need to recognize that so called "trans women" are men who suffer from mental illness and some with a fetish. This is very obvious. It does not mean anyone ought to be unkind to them. Maybe it is a mental illness that a certain small section of society has always suffered from, like Schizophrenia. That does not make it healthy and an identity. And, of course, there are the gay and straight sub types. This population deserves all the best/appropriate treatment to live the most productive and healthy lives they can. But, they are not women. That is pure GI and coercing society to bend to their mental illness.

Some of the most important and best work in raising awareness is being done right here on PITT by its extraordinary parent-authors. I really hope you're right about there being an impending cascade.

But exposing the fetishistic, often compulsive nature of autogynephilia is going to be a hard sell, even though it's old news to anybody who's been paying attention. But I've also noticed (on Reddit detrans) that there are young, heterosexual male detransitioners who know they have AGP and openly discuss the challenge of dealing with porn and sex addiction without shame and without medicalization. This is a big step forward in terms of changing the narrative on this type of self-identification.

Expand full comment

Then there is the argument - believed by many people of goodwill (and plenty who I know personally) - that "it has always been a thing so there must be something to it/it must "be real". The same could be said of schizophrenia. Mental illnesses are real. But, they are not an Identity. And, our institutions are promoting what the mentally ill are saying.

Plus, there have always been social contagions spread among young women. As in: "I'm fat". Oh, "I'm fat, too!".

I really do want to be part of a museum about this era when it passes.

Expand full comment

Part of the reason I think this will end is that compulsive nature - there is no satisfying the fixation. The AGP becomes recognized with "trans women are women", next it's they "are women", now it's "they are female".They seem compelled to seek more and more affirmation - in beauty contests, women's sports, lesbian spaces, etc. Take Bruce Jenner who appeared to want to run for governor of CA so that the whole world could see him weep on television in a dress (such a female stereotype). Then there are the ones who want to breast feed babies. Just think about all the chemicals it takes to make a man lactate. This cannot be good for an infant. Actual mothers want what is nutritious for their baby. When men insist they want to nurse it is a sexual fetish and it is baby child abuse.

I respect the AGPs who admit they struggle with a mental health problem. Most people don't care if a few adult men medicalize (though I feel sorry for some of them) but society must drop the Gender Ideology (and the pronouns) which is harming so many young people.

Expand full comment

You’re correct…there’s no end to the narcissistic attention they seek and the deranged extremes they will go to in order to get it. I’ve heard of men making themselves physically ill so they can experience “period cramps”…but nothing comes close to using actual infants as props to satisfy a fetish. It’s horrific to contemplate.

Thank you for putting all of this research together. It is a scandal that we have laws based on "gender". There is no such thing as "gender" outside of an ideology unless one is talking about "sex". We've been rolled by the mentally ill - some of whom want to groom the children and other who just don't care about the young. This is a completely different matter from being accepting of the tiny few (mentally ill) for whom "transition" might be the best of bad choices. Some of these are billionaires or otherwise in high position and do not care about "collateral damage".

I am the mom of a 12-year-old girl dealing with this dysphoria mess, and I have not taken her to a therapist out of fear that her gender madness will be reinforced by another adult. I do think, however, that the situation is more nuanced, and perhaps less dire. It seems to me that everything comes down to the definition of "seeking to change". The exception to the definition of "sexual orientation change efforts" to allow for "counseling for a person seeking to transition from one gender to another" means that a therapist CAN counsel people that are considering transitioning. Even without this exception, if a therapist systematically focuses on issues other than gender, that cannot in any sense be interpreted as "seeking to change" anything. As long as the therapist is not outright telling their patient that they are wrong, and they should change, there is no risk of this conversion therapy applying to them. Legal challenges are often needed to clarify laws, and I understand therapists not wanting to take a risk. But I think the risk is mis-perceived.

Expand full comment

It isn't mis-perceived. Affirmation is the only model they accept. Counseling is considered conversion therapy.

This phenomenon is attempting to remove the optics of same sex couples in public while neutering the Trans population. Is this a social “cleansing” movement?

Expand full comment
Jan 14, 2022·edited Jan 14, 2022

The optics of same sex couples originates from the 1960s or so. Two innately feminine males pretending to be masculine to attract one another. Before that homosexuals had relations with men who were deemed 'heterosexuals' (because they played the dominant or male role) and feminized themselves to a great extent to attract these men (transsexualism). Other homosexuals were viewed as sisters and not even considered as romantic partners. Homosexuals are innately feminine in behavior but now try to suppress it as much as possible and those that don't are heavily scrutinized group by all parts of society including their community. And the original structure still exists outside of the western world (third gender cultural groups like kathoey, hijra, and muxe)

Expand full comment

Ah the hijra logic, most are forcibly castrated and live as sex workers or beggars. Most come from poor families and likely never have seen a mental health clinic. Here is Vaishnavi Sundar who created movie 'Dysphoric ' about the Trans ideology and it's Ill effects. These classifications were created to exploit them. Self exploitation by association with such exploited communities is a mental health issue that needs therapy as well. https://youtu.be/yS7xKOu-QhQ

Expand full comment

You make good points, but you exclude the homosexuals men who are masculine looking, and the women who don’t look like sisters. In the end it shouldn’t matter what you look like. The bottom line to my point is that, appropriate or not, warranted or not, fully physically trans-aligned people are neutered and may have trouble having any form of sex like.

Indeed 'laura' wants to erase complete populations to prove a point. When someone young is mentally ill and they are sold that an identity will solve their distress with glitter and inducements that is as good as forcing them toward a certain path. Many detransitioners only realize that they have been led down the garden path after they have considerably damaged their life ( mind, body, years lost seeking the unachievable). They now say a few hard questions in a compassionate setting would have saved years of their lives living a false hope.

Expand full comment

And then there are all the teen girls who mostly suffered from not having enough friends - and were groomed step by small step away from family (and real love) into a cult ideology with love bombing at the time of identity formation. Even if these girls don't wind up going the medical route there's a lot of trauma to them & the family and wasted life/time that was absorbed by the obsession. I want a museum about this era once we are past it. We can include paraphernalia like binders and bios of the worst actors.

I just read a headline in USA Today that stated that a study found that trans children that are given hormones early have better mental health than those who wait until later. Could it have anything to do with the the fact that the support systems for transitioning people these days include a lot of positive input and encouragement, and social interaction with advocates, and that anyone with that kind of support would have better mental health, even without being trans.

I just read it. It is from 2015 survey that Jack Turban is milking for the past half decade to push hormones while he represents drug companies. It is based on an on line survey which many have pointed out to have high selection bias. If you are on a path you want to say it is working for you at least short term. Also adults usually drink and do stuff that they claim they do because they started late. Let us look at the statistics. 57 percent got hormones as adults, 40 percent never took it wiselt. 2.3 percent were adolescents. The conclusions were drawn with post hoc analysis the paper says. Post hoc analysis that is conducted and interpreted without adequate consideration of a problem sometimes called data dredging results in spurious associations. Soon a good statistician will take it apart. There are no objective mental health criteria tested in this survey longitudinally. Recent ENIGI did a longitudinal follow up study on the same people over several years. No positive affects were found. Here is the study. Jack will get a lot of publicity and money many more will be harmed. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/348484059_Positive_and_Negative_Affect_Changes_during_Gender-Affirming_Hormonal_Treatment_Results_from_the_European_Network_for_the_Investigation_of_Gender_Incongruence_ENIGI.

This is wrenching to read, and I applaud you for telling this story of the incompetence of the entire mental health field. I knew about my now ex-husband's lack of attachment with his father, the childhood abuse and the homophobic environment he grew up in. In the 1990s, I couldn't even be a voice in the wilderness, as my voice was completely trampled and stifled. Brava and bravo to the brave parents who are trying to go it alone! Be sure to take care of yourselves, too. This is unutterably stressful. Typically your children's paths are from the narcissistic abuse on the internet, groomers on tumblr & reddit, and fads in friend groups. How shall we help our kids adjust to adolescence? I invite you to come to my blog and share pieces of your story in the comments. There is much we trans widows have in common, parallel themes, with parents of dysphoric kids. One of my posts from Jan 12 is a scathing critique of the gender unicorn, with ideas for how to protect against this ritual conditioning and manipulation. I educate as best I can on the shrink talk, so you can categorize and use your skills to analyze, problem solve and plan for a calmer future. uteheggengrasswidow.wordpress.com I am a retired teacher, 3 certifications.

Where can these good therapists hide? In the UK these rare, brave therapists will be practicing privately, not in the National Health Service. The bullies in charge of the NHS mental health services will not let therapists work ethically. The excuse as always is lack of funding.

Much quicker and easier to just sterilise these poor deluded teenagers.

Looks like the UK will be following the USA with the nonsense conversion therapy ban which actually promotes the new form of conversion therapy: the conversion of children from one gender to the other.

Lucky you! Our therapist has said they will do this as well, first start with the "big stuff" (the first two things on that list of 3 that people don't want to deal with), before dealing with gender dysphoria. My hope is that all that will fall away by the time we get there.

I'm so happy your kid is in a better place and thank you for sharing your hopeful story with us!
