But the parents who affirm are not all to blame. Sure there are some who use their child or adolescent's trans-ID to virtue signal their progressiveness and for social clout. But more of them are parents who are just following their doctor's recommendations. Two of my daughter's close childhood friends came to the "I am trans" conclusion at age 12-13 and their parents (who had concerns about medicalization before that point) took them to our local university gender clinic. Bingo, they were gaslighted into thinking their child would commit suicide if they didn't acquiesce; their kids started hormones at age 14 and had mastectomies at age 15. It's really the "health care" professionals (planned parenthood, gender clinics, endocrinologists, therapists, etc.) who are to blame for perpetuating and promoting this.
