The support groups which are run by laymen and LGBTQ Allies are a problem for me. My family attended a PFLAG group run by “trained” volunteers and “trained” teenagers ran the teen portion. It was a mouthpiece for all that is woke, trans and hedonistic. It had no basis in science and no mental health professional supervision. It was a gripe session, a cheering session for anyone who wanted to claim to be persecuted and an indoctrination soup that told my kid what to think and say. I only went because I wanted my kid to know I love her.
On the other hand, I have had more positive experiences with support groups lead by qualified mental health professionals. One that I recommend is the Gender Dysphoria Support Network. Meetings are directed by social workers.
I also had a social worker at the partial hospitalization program demand to know why I did not use my child’s chosen name and pronouns. I replied that my daughter’s symptoms got much worse, the more focus was put on gender. Furthermore, my child told me that I was only to use her given name and pronouns.
These are very difficult times to navigate. If something doesn’t sit right with you, pay attention!
I would ask any group:
How do you deal with Gender Dysphoria, comorbid mental health conditions, affirming and non-affirming issues, keeping the family together?
