I guess I am in a lucky spot. I searched our school district policy. And it appears as if paperwork needs to be filed by both student AND parent to change name, pronouns, use chosen sex bathroom. He can still socially do whatever. But pretty sure this is way more work than he wants to do.

I would ask around because even if that is the written policy, the practice in the schools has been very lax, letting students self identify and choose. I hope you are lucky and the school is following it.
